6 Tips for a Successful Personal Branding Photoshoot
FIND THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOU
Make sure the photographer is available, responsive, gets the idea of what you are trying to accomplish, and aesthetically aligns with your style. You will be trusting them to lead you during your photoshoot, so make sure they have experience and portfolio to prove it. Also, get a feel for their personality, do you think you will have fun and enjoy yourself during the shoot or does it feel like work from the start? Vibe is everything!
PREPARATION IS KEY
Collect your branding guide, colors and moodboard if you already have one. If not, the right personal branding photographer will guide you to create all the above (at least to the extent of the photoshoot needs). Showing up to the shoot to βwing itβ will not result is anything good.
PROPS, WARDROBE, MAKEUP
Some of my best branding shoots involved a lot of props and quite an extensive wardrobe selection. Within two hours we are usually able to fit 4-5 outfits. Planning each scene with outfits and props in mind, and packing them like that, together, will be huge help during the shoot.
Do book a professional for your makeup and possibly hair as well. Itβs worth the extra expense. Professionals know what type of make-up and hairstyles should be used to bring out a personβs best features, and they will also use specific strategies that work best for a professional photo shoot, such as using heavier eye make-up and highlighting techniques.
GAME PLAN AKA SHOTLIST
We donβt just show up to shoot. We create a scene by scene shot list and a timeline. You will never lose track of time more than during your photoshoot. Not having a plan will result in lost time. Not staying on time will ruin everything.
DO NOT OVERSHOOT
When I know I got the shot I needed, we move on. There is no need to have 10 shots of the same outfit in the same scene. I give options for angles and details after we shot the main image and we change. My goal is to create as much content for you as we can. So yea, overshooting does not help.
USE TIME WISELY
Sure, checking my IG and posting BTS to stories while you are changing into your next outfit is a great way to take a break. But I am there to create - for you. So I put that time to use. By setting up your next scene, moving furniture (how else do you think i stay in shape?) and yes, taking lots and lots of flatlays, backgrounds, stock-like images for you to have.
